A knight kneels with his head bowed and his sword planted before him, in a thousand-flower field — foxglove, wild rose, fern and hawthorn in ivory and gold on a deep indigo ground. A raven watches from a branch. Two hounds move through the blooms. No sky, no horizon; the flowers run to every edge, the way the Flemish weavers made them.
This is a new design in an old language. Not a reproduction, not a scan of an antique.
